"My father-in-law, Howard Dahlheimer, has been going to Booi's for 25 years. Knowing how much we like to fish, this past spring he invited my two boys Austin (14) and Doug (12) and myself to join their annual trip. I am a passionate fly fisherman and I have been privileged to fish at many lodges around the world. Booi's is a truly special place. The hospitality and warm atmosphere provided by Jim and Tracy and all the staff made us feel like we had been coming for 25 years. The cabins, the boats, and the island atmosphere were fantastic! Should I mention the fishing? Austin caught a 20 lb. Pike on our last day and I overheard him telling several strangers at the lodge that evening of his proud accomplishment!
Doug's favorites memory was how the big walleye he was fighting was attacked by a giant pike and we almost netted both fish! Several days Austin and Doug caught more than 50 walleye each. I really enjoyed the variety of methods available at Trout Lake to catch pike, walleye and lake trout. I loved the freedom of each quest having their own boat for the entire week. A pet peeve of mine is having some guide tell me we will leave the dock at 8am and be back at 4:30pm. What's wrong with a little early morning fishing or perhaps a little after dinner evening fishing? There is much more to a really memorable trip than just catching lots of big fish (I've only learnt this recently myself!) I'll never forget my boys running around the island in the evenings, playing "cops and robbers!" Booi's is truly a place for everyone - serious anglers, couples, and families with kids. Our experience at Booi's was so incredible that my boys suggested we put our own group together of some of their buddies and their Dads. I say thanks to Howard and his group for inviting us and I look forward to sharing Booi's with our new group. We plan on making Booi's our annual family fishing tradition. I happen to believe that there are very few things more special in life than a Dad taking his son(s) on a fishing trip."
